The pastor personally received Kira. She was very friendly and led Kira to a side room where several file organizers were already set up.

"These are the church records from 1900 to 1912. If your great-grandfather was born here in town during this time and was Protestant, he should be listed there," she explained.

"Thank you very much. As far as I know, the family has always been Protestant."

On January 30, 1902, a Jan Jakobsen was baptized in the town, three days after his birth. This must have been her great-grandfather- he really did come from here. Then the villa that allegedly belonged to her great-grandfather must also be the building from the drawing. It was hardly possible that her great-grandfather had moved away from here and built a copy of the local castle somewhere else before going to the USA. It bothered her that she had no records from the 1920s when her great-grandparents had married; this would have been the easiest way to find out her great-grandmother's maiden name. Kira kept searching anyway. Her great-grandmother must have been about the same age as Great-grandfather Jan, maybe a bit younger. She had just looked through the years 1900 and 1901, now she was flipping through the following ones. Indeed, until 1906, three girls with her great-grandmother's first name were baptized in Süderwiek. One in September 1902, another in April 1904, and the last in March 1906. One of these women could have been her great-grandmother, but ultimately, she had no idea if her great-grandmother even came from Süderwiek. In any case, none of the girls had Jenssen as their last name. So this also didn't support the theory that Jan had married the Jenssens' daughter and that she had been disowned by her family. On the other hand, maybe the Jenssens weren't from Süderwiek either; after all, they were entrepreneurs and their company headquarters was in Husum, if she had understood correctly. Perhaps she should find out more about the origins of this family- but where should she start? After Kira had noted down the dates of the three girls and her great-grandfather, she sent Noah a text message.

"I'll be there in ten minutes," came the prompt reply.

She thanked the pastor once again, left a donation in the box collecting for the preservation of the organ, and stepped out in front of the parsonage. In front of the church, which stood on a small hill, there was a bench. She walked there, but when she arrived, she was too nervous to sit down.
